Dr. Taverna has always focused on shoulder surgery. He specialized in shoulder surgery and arthroscopy during
his fellowship under the direction of Dr. Gary Gartsman at the Texas Orthopedic Hospital in Houston in 1995. Since his appointment as Chief Surgeon at Istituto Ortopedico Galeazzi, Milan, he has regularly accepted orthopedic surgeons, residents and graduate students in his department for training in Shoulder Surgery .. Since 2004 to 2010 he served on the executive board of the Italian Arthroscopy Association (SIA),.From 2008 to 2010 he was nominated chief of the upper lim committee of ESSKA transformed in ESA in 2010. He is currently member of the Upper Limb Committee of ISAKOS. He regularly participates and present lectures at international shoulder meetings and courses, and has published various articles on shoulder surgery in international orthopedic journals. He was Chief Editor of the book Shoulder Instability 2010 and he wrote several chapters of shoulder books.
