Dr. Gustavo Vinagre is an Orthopaedic Surgeon and Sports Medicine Specialist. He did his medical degree (MD) and doctorate (PhD) at the Faculty of Medicine


He did his medical degree (MD) and doctorate (PhD) at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Navarra, Spain and the residency in Orthopaedic Surgery and Traumatology in the Clínica Universidad de Navarra, Spain. During his academic career, he has visited different institutions such as the Hospital for Special Surgery (New York); The Steadman Clinic and Steadman Philippon Research Institute (Vail, Colorado); FC Barcelona (Barcelona); Aspetar (Doha, Qatar) and Massachusetts General Hospital (Boston).
He did a Sports Traumatology Master Degree (MSc) in the University Autònoma de Barcelona and University of Barcelona and post-graduations in Sports Medicine (University of Porto), Football Medicine (University of Porto), High Performance Athlete Care (University of Barcelona) and the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Sports Medicine Diploma. He is also a Sports Medicine Specialist in Portugal.
During his residency, he did an Intensive Microsurgery Course in the Clínica Universidad de Navarra (Spain) and an Advanced Microsurgery Course at the Columbia University (New York) among other trauma, arthroscopy, knee and sports medicine courses.
He did a one year Sports Surgery Fellowship in Aspetar Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Hospital in Doha, Qatar.
He belongs to the Young Professionals Task Force Committee of ISAKOS (International Society of Arthroscopy, Knee Surgery and Orthopaedic Sports Medicine) and to the Board of Directors of SETRADE (Sociedad Española de Traumatología del Deporte), among other societies.
He is Journal Reviewer of the International Microsurgery Journal (IMJ); Arthroscopy – The Journal of Arthroscopy and Related Surgery; Foot and Ankle Specialist; Journal of Orthopaedic Surgery and Research; International Orthopaedics; The Journal of Cartilage & Joint Preservation; Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery; PRS Global Open; Journal of ISAKOS and The American Journal of Sports Medicine.
He is mainly interested in knee injuries, arthroscopy and sports surgery. www.gustavovinagre.com

Our hospital was founded in 1909 as a sanatoryum for bone diseases for the Austro-Hungarian Empire. After World War I it was renovated by the American Red Cross. In 1920 it was taken over by the Italian Red Cross and after WW II Valdoltra became part of Yugoslavian health systeme. It turned to orthopaedics and in early 1961 was renamed Valdoltra Orthopaedic Hospital.
