Born on April 8, 1966, he attended primary school in Izola, Secondary School of Natural Sciences and Mathematics in Koper
and the Faculty of Medicine in Ljubljana, which he completed in 1993. In October 1994, after eight months of “secundariate”, he was employed at the Valdoltra Orthopedic Hospital, where he became the head of the renovated bone infections department in 2012. He completed his specialization in orthopedics in 1999, and his doctoral thesis in the field of bone infections in 2010. He completed a fellowship at the Mayo Clinic in the USA and the Bruderholz Hospital in Switzerland in 2003 and 2004. He was active as a visiting professor at the Charite Hospital in Berlin for three months in 2017.
Clinically, he is most present in the field of artificial joints, especially revisions, and bone osteotomies.
He is involved in various domestic and international professional associations. Between 2012 and 2015, he was the president of the Slovenian Orthopedic Association, since 2009 he has been a national delegate to the European Hip Society (EHS), since 2014 he has been a national delegate to the European Federation of National Orthopedic Societies (EFORT). Between 2019 and 2023 he became first vice-president and then president of the European Bone and Joint Infection Society (EBJIS).
He is also interested in research and development, especially in the field of the analysis of causes of artificial joint failure. He co-authored a patent on p He is an active member of the research department. He participated in 10 national ARRS projects two international and several industrial. He organized or co-organized 14 congresses, is a mentor to 8 doctoral students, many of whom have already defended their thesis, and to numerous specialists and orthopedists national and from abroad who come to train in Valdoltra and is an assistant professor at the Faculty of Medicine in Ljubljana. He is also an honorary member of the Montenegrin Orthopedic Association.
He has given 200 invited lectures. He is listed in Pub Med under 80 publications, which reach around 3000 citations (Research Gate). Among the most notable is the publication of the international definition of artificial joint infection (EBJIS PJI definition), where he is the lead author. In various roles, he participated in writing 12 chapters in professional books. He has also published his book on an algorithmic approach to the treatment of artificial joint infections with Springer Verlag. He is a reviewer for 15 professional journals and an associate editor of the Journal of Bone and Joint Infection.
In his professional field, he treated close to 1000 orthopedic infection mostly PJI, implanted 5000 primary TJA and 1500 aseptic revision TJA. He introduced new treatment methods and innovative surgical procedures, especially the implementation of computer-guided surgeries, standardized procedures for treating bone infections, implemented a bone infection registry, and participated in the organization of hyperbaric medicine as a new field in the house.
