Dr Matej Drobnič is Full Professor and Chair of Orthopaedics at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Ljubljana
and Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, University Medical Centre Ljubljana, Slovenia. He specialises in arthroscopy, sports injuries and reconstructive surgery of the knee and foot/ankle. He is dedicated to research and new applications of cartilage repair and regenerative orthopaedics. His academic work has resulted in over 200 publications and over 100 lectures. He is currently President of the Slovenian Society for Cell and Tissue Engineering and an active member of numerous international societies for regenerative orthopaedics and sports medicine. He is a member of the editorial board of the American Journal of Sports Medicine and the Journal of Cartilage & Joint Preservation. As a former national basketball player, his commitment to sport is also reflected in his professional career as a team doctor for football, athletics, handball and ski jumping.
